An Original Song: The Unique Party Favor Guests Will Love
There’s something special about a really awesome party. Weddings, bachelorette parties, friendsgiving get-togethers – they’re some of those rare times when you forget about yesterday and don’t worry about tomorrow. You’re totally in the moment, immersed in the present, and can’t imagine that today could ever end. But sadly, it always does, and holding onto how you felt in that moment with those people is like trying to carry an ice cube on a hot day. Eventually, it all melts away and you’re left with just a memory.
Parties are too much fun to forget about a day later, so we encourage folks to create an awesome song inspired by their cool event that they can all listen to and enjoy over and over. They’re fun, easy to start, and are the best party favor you can think to give. For example, we threw a party in our Chicago office to celebrate our recent launch and afterwards worked with a songwriter to create an amazing song that recapped all that had happened during the night.
Step One: Hashtag Awesomeness
One of the best parts of giving your guests an original song is that they get to help write it with their personal stories of the night. It’s kind of like friendship bread, where everyone adds a little something of their own into the recipe, but with a song! First of all, we needed a way to collect everyone’s individual memories, experiences and feelings from the party, all of which would contribute to our shared story. So, we created a unique hashtag for attendees to use to live tweet and ‘gram their favorite moments from the party. That way we could easily keep track of the stories being built throughout the night.

Step Two: Party Hardy
No one’s going to want to listen to a song about a lame party, so we transformed our already pretty cool office space into an atmosphere replete with the coolest stuff we could find. Crazy purple lights, hilariously bad speeches, a uniquely dressed bartender and absolutely addictive pork sliders, all of which our attendees talked about on social media using the hashtag #SongfinchLaunch. Plus we had some fun activities like our Listening Stations for guests to interact with, so there was plenty for them to tweet about!
Step Three: From Story to Song
The next day, after we maxed out on some much needed McDonald’s breakfast and cake donuts, we pulled together all the stories from attendees’ social content and created a brief to send to a songwriter. Jul Big Green of Cleveland proved to be the best fit for our story, a terrific hip-hop artist with talents as ranged as singing in a 19-piece A Capella group to playing rhythm guitar for a contemporary Christian music group. His jazz-influenced style matched the vibes of the night perfectly, as you can hear in our song, “Birdie In My Ear.”
Step Four: Better Than A Goodie Bag
People rack their brains to think of creative ways to thank their friends for coming to their party. Of course there’s the obligatory Facebook post, and we’ve even seen people craft cute adult goodie bags of mini wine coolers and business cards that attendees can take with them.
While that’s cool and all, a personalized song that attendees actually contributed to with their own stories is the most unique party favor you can give to your guests.
Jul Big Green turned our shared stories into one cool song so we can all relive the party again and again. More than just a memory, though, the song is also fun to listen to in its own right — you don’t need to have attended the party in order to enjoy the beat, the lyrics and the inside jokes that are sprinkled throughout. Your guests will love this unique party favor — the only thing you’ll have to worry about is dealing with the jealousy of those who weren’t invited.
Oh well, they can listen to the song and hear all about it.
