10 Songs I Love: Catherine Rose

We recently got together with Catherine Rose and caught a glimpse into the soundtrack that drives her artistry. Join us as we dive into 10 songs that Catherine loves. These include songs that have been dominating her playlists, had an impact on her as a musician or songs that bring back wonderful memories.

1. “Fair-Weather Friend” by Bruno Major

This song is one that inspired a lot of writing for me. The chord progression is so unique and is something that caught me off guard in the best way.

2. “Caroline” by Briston Maroney

Briston has the insane capability of capturing an emotion in a song better than most people I know. I’m so thankful for artists like him who share things in the way he does.

3. “Women Who Look Like You” by JP Saxe

JP Saxe is one of my favorite writers of all time, and this song is a great example of why that’s the case. The guitar part at the beginning is what drew me in initially, and the whole concept of the song and the way he sings it keeps me coming back to it so often.

4. “Means Something” by Lizzy McAlpine

Lizzy is a new artist who I have fallen in love with. This song captures the heart wrenching feeling of being in a confusing relationship situation. I love the way she tells that story and shares that feeling. Makes me feel not so alone.

5. “I Don’t Wanna Be Okay Without You” by Charlie Burg

I heard this song first as a voice memo, and was so thrilled when i found the full version, but equally thrilled that the song stands on its own just as well. You’ve just gotta go listen to this one.

6. “Berenstein” by The Band Camino

I love this band and this song is one that stands out to me particularly because of the melodies that hook you right from the start. It is somehow nostalgic, yet current, which is something that is hard to do. Big fan.

7. “Dancing in the Moonlight” by Toploader

Not much explanation needed here – this is probably one of the best songs ever written in my opinion. One of my favorite pastimes is having arguments on which version is the best version, but i think we should all agree that the toploader version is the winner.

8. “30 Minutes” by Adam Melchor

I met Adam at SXSW and have been hooked on his songs ever since. This song tells a story that feels all too familiar to me in a way that I couldn’t articulate. I love songs like that.

9. “Transatlanticism” by Death Cab for Cutie

This is one that feels like it completely transcends me to a different place when i put it on. It’s like a whole atmosphere in a song. Death Cab has the ability to do that better than a lot of artists i know, which is why i’m such a big fan.

10. “St. Patrick’s Day” by John Mayer

Arguably one of John’s best songs. This is off of his 2001 Room For Squares album, which is my all time favorite. This song has so many of my favorite memories tied to it, which makes it one of my most favorite ever.
