Artist Spotlight: Laura Zocca

This month, we had the privilege of chatting with Laura Zocca, one of our favorite up and coming artists in the Songfinch Artist Community. Join us as we learn how she got her start in music, her musical accomplishments and a whole lot more. Let’s dive in!

First off, thank you for taking some time to chat with us. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you discovered your passion for music?

Of course! I’m a twenty-five year old musician/singer/songwriter born and raised in London, UK. I have always loved music, from since I can remember it’s always been the one thing I gravitated towards. I started playing piano and violin at the age of 7, continued with piano for 3 years, violin I played until I was 15, and I self taught myself guitar at 13 by watching Youtube Guitar Instrumentals! Songwriting followed not long after that, and singing I just fell into once I fell in love with songwriting and playing guitar simultaneously. Once I had those 3 things, I created a Youtube channel posting covers & originals, and the rest is history.

You have been writing for Songfinch since April of this year. As a newer name to our community, what have you liked most about writing for Songfinch thus far?

I have honestly LOVED hearing from people around the world, and falling in love with so many amazing heartwarming stories from complete strangers. There’s definitely a few recounts that have stuck with me because they were just so inspiring and amazing to hear.

Your song, “Chasing Hearts”, just broke over one million streams on Spotify. Congratulations on achieving that milestone! How have you been connecting with your fans as well as winning over new ones?

Thank you! I think I’ve managed to maintain a really close bond with my listeners through social media, and honestly getting to know them to the point where now we’re just all friends and I genuinely love talking to them. Whether it’s through an instagram DM or twitter thread, I’ve gotten to know some really amazing people who I adore. I’ve always tried to never have the barrier or “artist vs fans” so things like always messaging/commenting back has always been a priority for me.

Speaking of singles, your latest single “You”, was released about a month ago. Can fans expect to hear more music this year?

Definitely! As of right now, the plan is to release an EP this upcoming autumn with a bunch of songs I’ve held onto for far too long so, that’s really exciting.

What has been your favorite moment or experience from your music career?

It’s for sure a toss up between Taylor Swift resharing a cover I did of one of her songs and leaving the nicest compliment ever (safe to say I cried a lot from that haha!) and hearing a crowd sing back the words to me for the first time at a show I played in London!

If you could collaborate with any songwriter, producer or artist, who would it be and why?

There’s so many artists I admire & would love to work with it’s super hard to narrow down, but i’d say top 3 would be : John Mayer, Maren Morris or Taylor Swift. Any of those would be insane.

What are some key pieces of advice you would give to aspiring musicians?

One thing I’d say to any creative person honestly, is to just create for the passion and not for the numbers. Do and create what makes you feel your absolute happiest and proudest, and don’t get distracted by what you think people want or what you get back from it because that’s not what it’s about. Some of the greatest icons of all time had their art overlooked for a long time before it was appreciated. At the end of the day it’s the stamp you leave on the world through your art that will remain, not the numbers you racked up while doing it.

Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?

Just to keep an eye out for my next release this fall! You can keep up with me via my socials which is @iamLauraZocca on pretty much everywhere (Instagram/Twitter/Facebook) and stay in the loop on new stuff! Lastly, if you’re a listener – thank you so much for the continuous awesome support, it means the WORLD & if you’re not yet, I hope you take a listen, love what you hear, & feel free to reach out to me! 🙂
