Tips to ensure you love your Songfinch custom song

Tips To Ensure You Love Your Custom Song

We get it, ordering a one-of-a-kind custom gift for someone special can be intimidating. Along with thousands of 5-star customer reviews, our intuitive song submission form to help you supply the information we need, and our internal processes that reviews every order with extreme care, there are some additional steps you can take to ensure your custom song is more than you hoped for upon first listen.

Browse & request artists

Every artist sounds different and that’s part of the beauty of music. Genres contain many different variations, sub-genres, and styles within so what may be a country song to you, may not be a country song to someone else.

One of the most important things you can do to ensure your song aligns with your vision is browsing our artists and finding one or two (or three) that you really like the sound of for your song. We also have curated song playlists that feature our artist’s custom songs categorized by recipients, occasions, genres, and more.

You can request your favorite artists during the song submission process and we’ll pass it to the artist you requested. If they aren’t available for some reason, our Music Supervision team will reach out to you to discuss other options.

Browse our active artists: https://www.songfinch.com/artists
Browse our curated song playlists: https://www.songfinch.com/playlists

Generally, our artists don’t change their sound and style from song to song, so what you hear on our site will be very similar to what each artist will produce if they were to create your song. It gives you a style/vibe preview before you purchase.

Stick to the most important details

It’s important to remember that Songfinch and your artist don’t personally know you or your stories, only the information that you provide to us. We ask our Artist Community to not use the details word for word within the custom song’s lyrics, but at the same time, not to expand too far details that are not provided to us to avoid false assumptions.

With this being said, please focus on the most important parts of your story. You can provide a paragraph, or bullet points — whatever is easier for you. Note that anything included in your points can be used within your song’s lyrics unless specified not to use.

The “tell your story” section of the song submission form allows for 1,500 characters in addition to 3 “must-have” details, so there is plenty of room to include more than enough details to fill up your song. If you want a bit more, we offer the ability to add an extra verse to your song, which generally gets an additional 3-4 details included.

Phonetically spelling names & places

Under the recipient section of the song submission form, there is an option for you to phonetically spell their name or provide a link to the pronunciation. Please make sure to utilize this if the recipient’s name is uncommon.

Also, when providing your stories and details for the song lyrics, please provide pronunciation for any uncommon places, terms, or names. A simple mispronounced word can throw a song off and can take a few days to fix, depending on your artist’s availability.

If you’re unsure whether or not to include the pronunciation, it’s always better to include it.

Your song’s tempo

We’ve recently added a tempo preference step to the submission form. This selection helps you shape the whole vibe of your song and match your vision.

A slow-tempo romantic song has a whole different vibe than an up-tempo romantic song, so please make sure to select one if you have a preference. If not, the default is “No Preference” and the artist will use their expertise to form the tempo based on all of your other selections to make the best song possible.

Three must-have details

Our song submission form asks for three must-have details that you want to be included in your song’s lyrics. This helps make sure that the artist knows the most important details to include and nothing super important is left out. This gives you more control over what makes the song from a lyrical standpoint.

Detail context

When supplying story details, be sure to supply some context around certain details. For example, if you include “vacations” as a special memory, provide some details on your favorite vacations together. Or if one of your details is “mobile home,” expand on what makes it special or significant within your story.

Providing context around details keeps your song flowing smoothly and ensures that your details make sense to your story.

Song review & finalizing

At the end of your submission, you will see all your submission details and preferences in one place for your review. If you need to make any changes, please feel free to do so at this time. Do a double-check and make sure everything is perfect before adding to your cart.

We work quickly to fulfill your order so we cannot accept new details after submission.

Chat with us

At the bottom of our website, we have a chat widget that will connect you to our Customer Success team between the hours of 9 AM – 6 PM central time. If you have any questions about your submission, the song creation process, or anything else, please feel free to reach out via chat and they will be more than happy to assist.

If it’s after hours or you prefer to do some research on your own, our Help Center most likely covers anything you may want to know.

You only have 750 characters in telling your story and additional details, the 1500 defiantly would have helped me envelop my story, I had to exclude a lot of what I wanted to add.

Hey Susan. Thank you for reaching out. We don’t need more information than what we collect to create songs. There are 2 boxes that are capped at 750 characters and then a must-haves section for 3 details that you feel need to make it in there. Please stick with the most important parts of your story that you’d possibly like worked in and we’ll work our magic. If we collected more, it leaves much more info that will be left out. Our songs are two verses (~8 lines each) and choruses and the artist is generally able to work in about 5-10 details depending on the specific details provided, genre, artist, request, etc. I hope this helps! 🙂

I didn’t get to say goodbye to my husband before he passed away! The last words he said after I told him I loved him were “I love you too!” He struggled to push the words out because he could barely breathe! He had pulmonary fibrosis! We couldn’t go to ER with him because of Covid rules! No one was with him when he died and my heart is broken!! The last 9 days of his life I was literally right by his side! You see, I had broken my ankle in 3 places and was lying next to him for 9 days! We talked about so many things and he told me what a good wife I was and Mom and Mimi and I told him what a good husband he was and Dad and Papa! Maybe that was our goodbyes and I didn’t even know it! One time during those 9 days, David told me he couldn’t sleep and I said I couldn’t either and I figured out how we could escape the bedroom! I slid down the edge of the bed and carefully got into my wheelchair and using one leg to propel I then backed up to my husband’s side of the bed and he used my wheelchair as a walker and pushed me into the living room to his chair and I went into the kitchen had got us a snack and we watched American Pickers until we were ready to go back to bed! We felt like teenagers sneaking out! My daughter who was off from work for the summer, was staying with us to help us! I often see yellow butterflies, and yellow flowers which remind me of him and 1 cardinal came and perched above my porch Christmas Eve! It is May now and I wish so much to have a song for us because May 27th will be our 50th wedding anniversary!

I’ve been looking for a way to thank the artist who made a song for me. It was absolutely beautiful. Everything I wanted! If you could thank Erica B. For me, I’d appreciate it!

How long do the finished songs last, and do we get to hear the results of the song to ok it before its finished and completed?

Hey Catherine — our songs generally run 2:30-3 minutes in time and there is no review period before it’s finished. All our custom songs are created to order utilizing your personal details, stories, and selections, so there is no way to listen to your song before delivery simply because it’s not created yet.

If you’re nervous about buying a song that isn’t created yet, we totally understand. There are some steps you can take to ensure your song is better than you can ever imagine! This includes browsing our artists and choosing a few that you like, utilizing the ‘must have’ section of the submission form with your top 3-4 details, and reading all tips and instructions before submitting your order. Feel free to browse our artists here: https://www.songfinch.com/artists

I would like to contact someone on behalf of the song I was given. The lyrics are wrong and Mis pronounced and Mis spelled. How do I contact customer support to have this corrected? Is there a number I can call or someone I can talk with?

Can I work with an artist who will allow me to submit some personal lyrics I wrote as a starting place for my song? I realize it might cost more but I would like to start there if possible.

Hey Ron, absolutely! When you fill out your song request form, you can write out your lyrics and one of our many talented artists would be happy to transform that into a complete song for you! 🙂
